January 2014’s edition of FlyPast is a colossal, 132-page issue that pays tribute to the men and machines of Bomber Command that took part in the epic Battle of Berlin. Supported by numerous rarely seen archive images, we describe the role played by Avro Lancaster and de Havilland Mosquito units. As well as a special one-off section dedicated to recounting these perilous operations, we also include over 20 pages focusing on a true ‘Cold War’ warrior – the supersonic North American F-100 Super Sabre. We look at its use in the Vietnam War and include some exclusive artwork of a Super Sabre in USAF Thunderbirds livery.

MOSQUITO AND SPITFIRE LATEST
With only one airworthy ‘Mossie’ currently operational, we bring you the latest news from a Canadian organisation intent on doubling those numbers in the not too distant future. A repainted Spitfire also fires up its Griffon engine at Duxford for the first time following an impressive restoration.

SOVIET ICE WARRIOR
Mark Sheppard describes the last combat of an Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik deep inside the Arctic Circle, and the subsequent attempts to recover the aircraft from a lake.

AVENGER ON THE PROWL
We go air-to-air with a New Zealand-based Grumman Avenger. Exclusive photography from Gavin Conroy.

CONCORDE MEMORIES
We mark the 10th anniversary of the supersonic airliner’s retirement with some stunning images from Adrian Meredith.

WARBIRDS GALORE!
A visit to spectacular warbird-themed airshows in Midland, Texas and Temora, Australia.

Plus the story of a privately owned de Havilland Venom, a fond look at the history of Sea Vixen G-CVIX as the much loved jet celebrates its half-century, and a look at the history of RAF Defford, focusing on its role in the development of airborne radar. We also bring news of some significant historic aircraft movements at Russian museums, and conclude our story of one man’s courageous career in Bomber Command
